Feeding our Community

Out of the Kitchen and Into the Community

FoodWorks does more than transform lives through culinary workforce development—it also plays a vital role in addressing childhood hunger across Maryland.

In the same Baltimore County kitchen where students develop their culinary skills, a dedicated team of Maryland Food Bank chefs, kitchen staff, drivers, and program professionals work together each day to prepare, package, and deliver thousands of nutritious meals to children throughout the state.

Through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program, and the SUN Meals Program (formerly Summer Food Service Program), FoodWorks provides healthy, USDA-compliant breakfasts, lunches, suppers, and snacks to children when school meals are unavailable.

Working alongside schools, recreation centers, YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, libraries, faith-based organizations, and other community partners, the team helps ensure children have consistent access to nutritious meals in safe, supportive environments where they can learn, play, and grow.

Behind every meal is a coordinated effort that begins long before food reaches a child. From menu planning and procurement to meal preparation, quality assurance, packaging, logistics, compliance, and delivery, the FoodWorks team is committed to excellence at every step. Their work ensures meals not only meet rigorous USDA nutrition standards but are also fresh, appealing, and delivered safely and on time.

By providing reliable access to healthy meals year-round, FoodWorks helps reduce childhood hunger, supports children’s physical and academic development, and eases the financial burden on families. More than a meal provider, the FoodWorks team is a trusted partner in strengthening communities and creating opportunities for every child to thrive.
